Back Pain in Pregnancy
Pre-Pregnancy Counseling
The physician should ask women who are contemplating pregnancy about their history of back problems. Women with a history of lower back pain should be informed about the increased risk of symptom recurrence during pregnancy. Before a woman becomes pregnant, encouraging her to become fit and resolving existing back problems is the key to back pain prevention .
Physically fit women who get 45 minutes or more of physical activity a day are less likely to develop lumbar pain during pregnancy. However, pre-pregnancy fitness does not seem to decrease the risk of developing sacroiliac pain.
